Passiflora edulis Sims f. flavicarpa Deg. – Known as yellow or sour passiofruit. Yellow fruits when ripe. It’s the most produced specie.

Passiflora alata Dryand – Known as the sweet passionfruit. Ovoid fruits, yellow or bright orange when ripe. Propagations by seeds or cuttings. It has got anti anthelmintic proprieties.

Pollination has an importance attention ensuring a good production. The period until the beginning of the passion fruit harvesting can vary from 6 to 9 months after the permanent planting in the first year, depending on the production area and its weather conditions.

Plantings made into the months near the summer season allow starting precocious harvests (6 months) while the ones made into the cold months have the harvesting delayed. The Passion fruit plant has got long harvests periods, variable in 8 months in Southeast (10 months in Northeast) and up to 12 months in North of the country.

Passion fruit is a fruit of strong aroma and acidity. Its juice pH varies from 2,8 to 3,3, 2,9 to 5,0% acidity and soluble solids from 12,5 to 18%, total sugars from 8,3 to 11,6%, redactor sugars from 5,0 to 9,2%, ascorbic acid from 7,0 to 20,0mg/100g, niacin from 1,5 to 2,2mg/100g and the potassium from 140,0 to 278mg/100g.
